Next Year is This Year?

As a Cub’s fan we are always saddled with the “there is alway’s next year”.  It has been a long time since the Cubs have been to the world series, yet alone won it.  We’ve had the pleasure of watching a lot of Hall of Famers come and go.  We’ve also had that World Series fever, most recently 2003.  But, not even my Grandparents have had the pleasure of seeing the Chicago Cubs win the World series.  So, the question that I always ask myself every February when pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report is…  What are our chances this year?

The cubs GM Jim Hendry made it a point go out and get a world class manager and to spend a few bucks to bring a few new faces.   The cubs now have stable starting rotation led by Zambrano, boosted line-up headed by Alfonso Soriano, and deep bench.  This team looks the to be competitive this year.  The team looks strong on paper and should be favored to at least make the playoffs this year.  However, considering it is the cubs, I’m sure they’ll find a way to mess it up.  Allah only knows how far they’ll go, but I think we can rest comfortably knowing Jim Hendry wants to win and has improved the team.

What’s next (in no particular order):  A Sammy Sosa Rant, an evaluation of the news faces, and a position by position breakdown of the roster.
